require that people seeking permits for concealed weapons get fingerprinted, we not only have a chance to identify those applicants that have criminal records, we also have a fingerprint record of all those that have been issued permits.
Should a crime be committed by one of those people, it could be a major help in solving the crime. That benefit to society far outweighs some vague concern by narrowminded individuals that somehow having your fingerprints on file invades your privacy.
Frankly, I think we should require that every U.S. citizen and all aliens be fingerprinted. Not only would it support criminal investigations, it could aid in missing person searches, identification of remains of serious accident victims, positive identification of amnesia victims and more. We should perhaps require it as part of the driver licensing process.
Just because someone voices a rather uninformed concern at a hearing about their so-called right of privacy, I think it is a serious mistake to jump in with the conclusion in your editorial that this one person or perhaps a few others that were swayed
