council can be involved.

A joint session of the Town Council and the Planning Commission will be held on Aug. 25 in the town hall at 7:30 p.m. to discuss Mr. Herd’s proposal. Citizen participation is vital to this process and all interested people, whether from the town or the surrounding community, are encouraged to attend.

Copies of the draft proposal and Mr. Herd’s followup to the July public meeting are available from Kaye Kohler at the town hall.

The final item on the agenda was a Public Hearing to consider Charlie Tompkins’ request for a Special Use permit to extend the roofline and add a porch to the front of his Main Street building.

Discussion centered on the parking spaces that would be affected by this change. Mr. Tompkins explained that his proposed design would help solve a water problem in the building and that there was sufficient rear parking available to offset the spaces lost in front.

There was no opposition from the citizens attending and Mr. Tompkins* request was approved unanimously.
