At age 18, Rachel Leigh Carrino of Warrenton has already planned out how she will achieve a career in medicine.
And through the Virginia Community College System, and the Fauquier campus of Lord Fairfax in particular, her plans are coming to fruition.
A 10-year resident of Fauquier, Carrino attended Fauquier High School for her sophomore year before transferring to the newly opened Liberty High School, where she graduated in 1996.
She did well in high school, and was eager to begin her pursuit of higher education. She was influenced to enter medicine by her father, who is a physician’s assistant. Her dream is to become a pediatric nurse.
Carrino applied for several scholarships, and was awarded the LHS Principal’s Scholarship for $1,550 toward her first year at Lord Fairfax. This summer she was awarded a scholarship from LFCC for $780.
Her immediate goal is to earn her associates degree in general studies at LFCC and then enter George Mason University’s nursing program.
