On Friday, Oct. 13 at 8 p. in. _ diplomat and author Carl Qoqr will speak about his recently released book, Culture Wars and the Global Village, inaugurating a new monthly series of thought-provoking presentations and discussions to be held at the Rappahannock Library.
The series is a revival of the popular First Friday at the Library programs, which were organized for many years, by Diana Bird and a committee of local volunteers. At the committee s request, the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC) will sponsor the new series, which has been moved to second Friday's to avoid conflicts with the films RAAC offers at the Theatre on first and third Fridays of each month.
Rappahannock resident and former Ambassador Carl Coon is in a unique position to write about the meaning of culture and the nature of conflict between various groups of people. He himself says that the thing he does best and enjoys the most has always been traveling and getting to know people in faraway places.
The son of a well-known anthropologist, Coon's love of foreign climes and cultures was part of his early inheritance. After serving in the US Army in Germany following the close of World War II, Coon graduated
