Photo courtesy of Louise van Dort The "Swingin' Country Picnic," sponsored by the Rappahannock Historical Society at the Montpelier mansion near Sperryville, was the place to be Sunday afternoon as nearly 400 friends of the society came out in force to show support of their Rappahannock heritage. Lines stretched 60-feet long as people gathered under a big, white tent to dine on delicious barbecue provided by Madison's Pig N Steak. The fundraiser, which raised $16,000, was held to help furnish the new addition to the society headquarters. It featured Cooter and His Garage Band, some of country music's best musicians. The event, which included guided tours of Montpelier, was considered a huge success, thanks to all of its supporters!
