This is the second in a series on suggesting what might be a reasonable population level for Rappahannock County. We are using the Goldilocks Methodology, asking what might be "too few"’ people, "too many" people, and then trying to zero in on what might be "just right."
Last week, we covered the first part of "too few." We started with a population of zero, then one person, followed by a hunter-gatherer society of about 38 people in the county. Next came the idea of 500 people in and around each of the five county villages, for the reason that it is possible for people to recognize about 500 individuals in one place over a period of time. This gave a total county population of 2,500 people.
Finally, we asked whether Virginia had any legal guidance on a minimum population level or the minimum square miles for a county. Possibly this could highlight a "too few" figure. Too bad. The Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia and state laws are silent on this mflttpr
