Being a parent can be stressful. It requires time, energy and significant emotional and financial investments.
"It's a responsibility that changes, but what doesn't change is the fact that a parentchild relationship will last a lifetime, until either a parent or child dies", said Linda Murphy, Extension Agent, Virginia Cooperative Extension.
It is no wonder that parents can easily be overwhelmed. They may not have had much experience with infants, small children or children at any age for that matter. That does not mean that they cannot learn to be more effective parents. -
lb help parents leaffc more about parenting skills and how to use them, Virginia Cooperative Extension along with a community partnership will be offering Basic Parenting. It is a leam-as-you-go program.
The program is based on a parent education model, which was created by a national panel of child development specialists in Extension. The five session program has as a goal to nurture in parents the capacity of mindful parenting in six critical areas: care of self, understanding, guiding, nurturing, motivating, and advocating for children.
