It's not the event itself, but how we perceive it.
An example can be found in two college roommates. One of them wakes up early, raises the blinds and enjoys the daylight, throws open the window, drinks deeply the fresh morning air and listens appreciatively to the morning bird calls.
His roommate wakes up and shouts: "Are you out of your mind? The sun is in my eyes, it's freezing in here, and do something about those blasted noisy birds."
Each person has his own perception of the very same world. The world is what we say it is.
