Gray Ghost was the only Virginia winery to receive an award in the Hilton Head Island’s 2001 International Wine Competition. The 1999 Reserve Chardonnay was awarded a silver medal.
The Hilton Head’s Competition is one of only 17 wine competitions sanctioned by the U.S. Wine Institute and listed in the yearly Guide to U.S. Wine Competitions. This year there were 760 entries.
This award comes on the heels of Gray Ghost winning a bronze for the 1999 Reserve Chardonnay in the annual Grand Harvest Awards, a New York sponsored international competition of over 1000 entries. Gray Ghost Winery can be contact at 937-4869.

farmers to meet
The spring meeting of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Association will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 in the apple packing shed on RFA President Dick McNear’s farm. Items on the agenda include: the CREP program; the new RFA web site; the Piedmont Small Farm Festival; and various subcommittee reports. • Saturday, April 28 the Democratic Caucus will be held at The Theatre in Washington starting at noon. Five delegates will be elected who will represent Rappahannock at the 10th Congressional Convention on May 19.
• Monday, May 7 the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors will meet at 2 and 7 p.m.
• Tuesday, May 8 the Rappahannock School Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. in the Band Room at Rappahannock High.
