Some of the native herbs gathered and added to the tender dandelion leaves in the spring were plantain, dry land cress, mustard greens and lambs quarter. They were washed; put together and boiled as a vegetable. They were seasoned with fat back or bacon drippings, and served with a cruet of oil and vinegar as a dressing.
