• 1931 — Mrs. John Hay Whitney’s Seraglio: There were 12 starters in the 10th running of the Gold Cup. Soissons, 1930 winner, was favorite, but Seraglio and rider Bill Streett overcame two refusals to win by five from Soissons at the old Clovercroft course.
• 1941 — C.M. Greer Jr.’s Goldun: A full field of 14 lined up for the 20th.rendition of the 4-mile timber event that was back at Broadview in Warrenton. It would have been a great race, except that the first, second, third, fourth and fifth place finishers were disqualified for going off course
