Robinson and Starks each had two hits, as did freshman Brian Brown. After the game Tupper said, “It was a tough loss, we certainly played well enough to win, but I’m seeing lots of improvement on our squad. I just hope that we can keep getting better.”
The Madison County Mountaineers brought their Varsity team to Rappahannock on Friday, April 20. It was a special day, as the new ball fields were officially dedicated with a brief ceremony involving the County Board of Supervisors.
After senior catcher, Jesse Smith caught the first ball thrown out by Board Chairman, Mr. Pete Estes, the-game began. It was not to be a good District home opener for the Panthers. The final score was 10-0 as the Panthers could only muster two hits and nu offense. *
The JV squad, on the other hand, traveled to Madison for their first away game versus a Bull Run District opponent. The JV Panther bats were red hot as they blistered the Madison pitching staff for seventeen hits.
Five Panther batters had two or more hits with freshman, Josh Werner, the winning pitcher, going four for four at the dish, along with first baseman, Kyle Robinson. Wally Reid went four for five and freshman, Billy Tucker had a pair of singles, as did Brandon Cooper.
It was a happy bus that came home from Madison Friday night as the JV girls also beat their Madison counterparts in softball.
