performance by striking out 13 JV Madison girls and only allowing three hits. Her teammates provide excellent support as catcher Megan Payne threw out two Madison runners attempting to steal second base and the defensive play in the field was solid. The JV team is tied for first place and is undefeated in District play.
Baseball
On Monday, April 16 the Valley Panthers from Page County High School came to RCHS for a Varsity baseball game. The Page County nine had previously beat our Panthers 14-7 at their place back on March 19. It was a good game for both teams and a tough loss for our side.
Battling to within one in the bottom of the seventh inning, the RCHS Panthers were unable to bring home the tying and winning run which died on base as the game ended with two strikeouts.
The JV Panthers looked like they might suffer a similar fate, being down 6-1 in the fifth inning at Page. But sophomore, Noah Starks hit a grand slam home run to pace the six run 5th-inning for the Rappahannock nine. Freshman, Kyle Robinson and sophomore, Wally Reid also got key hits as the RCHS Panthers left Page with a 10-7 win. Starks was also the winning pitcher.
On Tuesday, April 17 the varsity hit the road and traveled to Clarke County High School while the JV played at home.
The cold temps and snow flurries cooled off the baseball bats as the Varsity was handed a 17-1 defeat. This was the result of a big fifteen run inning for the Clarke Eagles. Coach Donn Hackney said after the game, “Junior Jamie Keys started and pitched well through three innings. He gets guys to hit a lot of ground balls and that should help you win some games. I’m very pleased with his pitching, he needs a better defense behind him.”
The JV played well again at home and outhit the Eagles 107. Unfortunately, a couple of walks and a pair of wild pitches allowed the Clarke JV to score the go ahead runs as they defeated our Panthers 10-8. Coach Michael Tupper had set a team goal of ten hits and the
