Freshman Ashley Clinedinst and Ryisha Cook, along with eighth grader Megan Payne led the Rapp attack with two hits apiece.
On Tuesday, April 17, the Panthers faced district opponent Clarke County with the varsity at Clarke and the JV here at home. It was an extremely cold and unseasonable day for softball that even produced some fourth inning snow flurries.
Despite the cold the red hot bat of junior center fielder, Amy Clinedinst all but beat the Eagles single-handedly. She was a “one-man wrecking crew” as she laced two triples to the wall and a double in the gap to provide all the offense the Lady Panthers needed to dismantle the Clarke team 9-3. Freshman shortstop Jamie Deal also drove in two runs with a pair of hits, as Sharp continued to baffle the opposition with a two-hitter on the mound and notch her seventh victory against one loss.
The JV Panthers clearly outclassed their JV opponents from Clark as they destroyed the JV Lady Eagles 39-0 in five innings. The JV team collected 30 hits off the Clarke County pitchers.
On Friday, April 20, the tension was in the air as the second place, Lady Mountaineers from Madison County came here to face-off against our Lady Panther varsity. The Mountaineers were 4-1 in District play and serious about retaining their position in second place. It was not to be as the Panthers came to play and sent a signal that this year they were ready to compete.
Scoreless until the third, Junior Gwen Johnson bunted for a hit with two outs and stole all the way around the bases to give the Panthers the one to nothing lead. The RCHS squad added three more runs in the bottom of the sixth with back-toback singles by Johnson and Sharp, followed by some RBI
