The wins placed her biggest client, the Augustin Stables of her stepfather George Strawbridge, at the head of the NSA Owner of the Year rankings, too.
In 1999 and 2000 Neilson repeated the feat, leading Augustin Stables to the nation’s top billing again. The stable cleaned up in the money-won bracket for 2000 with $596,991 earned. Much of the money won came from NSA leading jockey Gus Brown, a Fauquier native, and the Chilean-bred novice ‘chaser Pompeyo.
Pompeyo snatched the first two legs of the $100,000 Triple Crown series and went on to win several more races for Neilson in the fall. This spring, Pompeyo is back on track for the trainer afler winning the rich Carolina Cup in South Carolina on March 31.
