but their love of art, and art collecting, and retailing undoubtedly, if subconsciously, mentally rebuilt the Main Street store as a new venue for local and regional art and crafts.
It was last September that that subconscious rebuilding became a reality-based plan. Martin convinced a skeptical Cheri that a gallery could be the answer that would satisfy them both, and provide Sperryville with another brick in its process of rebuilding. “We’re really fond of Sperryville,” Cheri said, and Martin added that they would both “like to see Sperryville become more of art and music center . . . with some funky charm.”
The new Long View Gallery opened this March, and it should have its Grand Opening event this coming May. Like the other Woodard ventures, the Long View Gallery is reflective of the style and grace of its owners, and it will add that funky charm to Sperryville— but a decidedly upscale funky charm it will be.
The physical facility itself is a marvel of adaptation and reconstruction. The gallery spaces are open, airy, perfectly lighted, and appear to have been designed for the purpose for which they now serve—and not as a Nineteenth century dwelling.
