School Board member Rosa Crocker noted that there is great potential for excellence in Rappahannock—that “excellence can pop up anywhere”. and that “education is worth the investment of time and resources.”
Superintendent Dr. David Gangel said that there are five reasons why school budgets increase: state and federal mandates; market conditions, local differences; unanticipated maintenance and repair; and enrollment increases, and he noted that Rappahannock increases are attributable to all but the last. He told the Board of Supervisors that the budget could be cut, but that any cuts would mean that all of the goals could not be met. He concluded though that the commitment to the children would not be affected by budget cuts: “it really doesn’t matter,” he said, “we are committed to doing our very best on behalf of the children.”
