The Rappahannock girls’ squad played first and disrupted some early attempts by the Clarke County girls to score. However, both teams scored once in the first half. In the second half Rappahannock got the wind at their back and caught the Clarke keeper off the line repeatedly.
Senior Jenny Waters and junior Adrienne Moore just kept lofting lazy shots into the open upper comers. The Rapp defense kept the door closed and we went on to win 4-1. Jenny Waters and Adrienne Moore each had two goals apiece.
The weather conditions worsened as the boys game began. The first half was played fairly evenly but Rappahannock’s senior Dan Riemeijer scored near the end.
The Clarke team was over matched but managed to just keep hanging around. With the second half Rappahannock got the wind advantage and kept Clarke on their heels. Riemeijer scored again after a Clarke miscue in the back line. The Rappahannock defense played well before giving up a meaningless goal with the final' score in Rapp’s favor 2-1.
On Friday, April 20 the Madison Mountaineers came to play what was a very physical contest that ended up with a 6-4 Rappahannock win. Rapp dominated the first half with four unanswered goals. Senior Josh DeMarr opened by jumping on a loose ball after the Madison keeper failed to handle a blistering shot by Riemeijer.
Another of Rapp’s exchange students, senior Miguel Graveria, scored three more times before the half was over.
