Most of the lawns are so pretty and green now from all the rain and warmer weather we have had.
There are some lawns that look as though they have been manicured, and others are filled with those yellow flowers known as dandelions. A real nuisance to some and just weeds to others.
The dandelion is really an herb and has a variety of folklore associated with it.
It was a tradition with the German settlers to gather the dandelion greens on Maundy Thursday. This was the day before Good Friday, or the day referred to as Green Thursday. Their belief was if you ate greens on this special day you would have good luck for the rest of the year.
Another use for the dandelion was to cure warts. You would cut the stem of the dandelion and squeeze the sap on the wart (dandelion milk), rub it gently and repeat for several days. Each family had their own remedy to remove warts, some were thought to work, but many didn’t.
