Triennial School
Census 2005
Every three years the Commonwealth of Virginia conducts a census of school age children, age five to 19. The triennial census is currently being taken in all parts of the state. The Commonwealth has charged the public school systems of every county and city with the cluty of collecting the census information. This information is used for long term educational planning, and, more immediately, for apportioning the sales tax amounts that are distributed to localities based on the school-age population.
Because the number of school-age children residing in opr county drives the amount the county receives, it is important for all children, both public and private schooled, as well as home-schooled, to be counted in the census.
Census forms are available at all schools in the county, and at the county library. Some may receive forms in the mail, with self-addressed, stamped envelopes for returning the information. The only information required is the name and date of birth of the 5-19 year olds, the namels) of the parentis) or guardian(s), and the home address.
