Crews from the Camelback ski area in Pennsylvania arrived at the deserted Harris Hollow site last week to wind up the cable for the ski lifts. All the ski equipment is scheduled for removal as the property goes up for sale again following the failure of a private ski club concept to catch on.

Nearly 400 people attended the Ben Venue kite Fly and Earth Day celebration at Ben Venue Farm last Saturday. It was an excellent day for flying kites as the wind was really strong. So strong in fact that while flying his parafoil, Ed Gwyn of Sperryville was lifted into the air (and he weighs over 200 lbs.). He also gave lessons with the giant kites. Kites of all sorts and sizes were up in the air — homemade kites, long tailed kites, and others. Kite Fly organizer Heidi Eastham said that all children who made kites and registered received blue ribbons.
Congratulations to Mr. Stanley Settle upon receiving the “Amissville Citizen of the Year” award last Thursday during a ceremony at the Ruritan Club. His selection was based on his many years of service to the community working with the Ruritan Club, Fir^ Department, Little League, and Boy Scouts in his church and in the community.
