Relay for Life is also our way to honor cancer survivors and to remember those we have lost to cancer in the fight. The Relay opens as cancer survivors walk, run, or wheelchair the first lap in celebration of their victory. All cancer survivors in the community are invited to register and attend the Relay. Cancer survivors may register with Carolyn Leake, the Survivor’s Walk Chairperson at 635-2073. Registration can be made in advance or at the Relay.
Also, a luminary ceremony is held after dark to honor cancer survivors and to remember those who have lost their battle against cancer. These luminaries fine the track to remind participants of loved ones who are being honored or remembered. A luminaria may be purchased in honor of a cancer survivor or in memory of a cancer victim by sending a $5 contribution to the American Cancer Society, do Mary Ann Krammes, Luminaria Coordinator, 75 Round Hill Road, Boston, VA 22713. Luminaria may also be purchased by giving your donation to one of the Relay Team members.
