Ron Makela of Jackson district agreed with Kilpatrick’s statement on not delaying the construction of the track. Makela said that because of other improvements to athletic fields over the years people now like to come to Rappahannock and play on those fields.
Makela also observed that there was not a grand turn out at the meeting and that this situation has persisted over the last few years. “I think this small crowd shows people are content with what has been done. In the past many have been here to speak against the budget. Those people aren’there anymore because the majority of people are pleased with the way that money is being spent. In your deliberations you can be sure people in the county are in support,” said Makela.
Kathryn Treanor of Jackson district said that each year she watches the Board of Supervisors struggle with issues and the wondrous improvement in our schools is a testament to their efforts over the years. “I am also honored to speak in favor of the passage of the entire school budget,” said Treanor who added she felt the school would jeopardize students if they were not able to follow suit and increase Rappahannock salaries.
The Board will take up adoption of the budget May, 2 at 2 p.m. at the Rappahannock County Court House.
