School board member Aline Johnson of Piedmont district thanked the Board of Supervisors for the opportunity to speak and all that they have done for the children of Rappahannock County in the past. While she understood the difficulty of ever increasing taxes she felt it was her duty to see that all children in this county have access to the very best education possible. Johnson said to do this there are things that the schools absolutely need and she asked the board to please do their best to pass the school budget as presented.
School Board member Rosa Crocker also spoke and stated young people do not have a voice and parents feel uncomfortable in a political arena and so it is her job to represent their needs as best as possible. She stressed the importance of a good education in helping Rappahannock students to “compete in an unforgiving global economy.”
Citizens heard
Sharon Kilpatrick of Stonewall/Hawthome district was first to speak, saying she supported the notion of going ahead and getting a roof and AC installed at the elementary school.' Kilpatrick felt it was acceptable to postpone the gym and track as long as there is some assurance the track will eventually be built because it has been put on the shelf for too long. In regards to salaries, Kilpatrick also said it is very disappointing to see Rappahannock dead last (compared to the surrounding five coun
