Food is another regularly occurring topic. Where’s a good restaurant or who is a good merchant to patronize?

Have you seen my dog? Lost and found animals or what wild animals have been sighted and where? What flowers are blooming and where or who is ill or who is doing well. Help wanted or help available. Topics of major and minor news of interest in the country, county or town. And then there is a quite literary group that will share book titles, articles, quotations, or poetry.

Rappnet started out as an email group in 1997. It’s a local wonder of technology that is sweeping the internet through our county.

As a public internet forum, Rappnet is somewhat unique in that member’s personal email addresses are visible. This enables other viewers to correspond directly without directing comments to the Rappnet list as a whole. This may be an advantage or not, depending on the nature of the comments.

Unsolicited critical comments have caused some members to refrain from posting or even cancel their participation altogether. A service where folks can post email messages to a group of subscribers that are interested in Rappahannock County and want to discuss issues, reminisce, advertise events or just make chat.

It is also used by our County Government to post agendas, important information and upcoming county government events.

Rappnet currently has 260 members. Most members are from the surrounding counties and towns. There are some from other states.

One of Rappnet’s chatterers, Demaris Miller said, “Rappnet is a wonderful community resource. Rappnet provides an opportunity for neighbors to share all sorts of news and information”. Miller has even purchased things off of Rappnet.

Rappnet is a meeting of the minds. Rappnetters share their ideas, praises, poems, gripes or whatever is on their minds. Some ideas are informative, some are controversial and some are amusing.
