Alvin Henry, Jr., a commissioner from the Jackson District expressed considerable concern with the number of bedrooms the addition would create in the housing complex.

“The drain field is only for three bedrooms so you would have to reduce the number of bedrooms,” Henry said.

With Mr. Paratofe present at the meeting, he was able to offer that he would either be removing a bedroom from the primary dwelling or increasing the size of his drain field, falling in compliance with the health department’s regulations.

In consenting approval for the application, Rayihond Brown, Sr., a commissioner of the Jackson District, said, “I am glad to see a father keeping a son in the county because so many young people can’t afford to stay here.”

The Planning Commission voted unanimously for Paratore’s application to appear before the County’s Board of Zoning Appeals, requesting a variance.

According to county ordinances, the garage and apartment space for both structures exceed the 1200 square foot gross limit.

With this in mind, McCarthy proposed to the planning commission that he will write an amended ordinance that would include a private living space have its own separate entrance, allowing the living space to be considered separately in the square footage of an addition. McCarthy proposed he would have a draft of the ordinance prepared for the May'18 meeting. Subdivision changes
