Elementary School
RCES PTO hosted the Spring Reading Favorites April 21, in the RCES gym. Thirty-nine Kindergarten through 7th graders read, performed, or recited passages from their favorite books. The finale for the evening was the William Shakespeare Reader’s Theater performed by students in Jan Makela’s fourth grade class. All the readers for the evening received a five dollar gift certificate to the upcoming Scholastic Book Fair for participation.

The weekend of April 8th, eight RCHS students who had earned first place awards at the District 10 Skills USA (formerly VICA) Competitions went on to compete at the Virginia State Skills USA competitions in Roanoke.
Senior Raymond Furr and juniors Will Dodson, Jeremy Miller, and Tim Williams earned a bronze medal for their 3rd place finish in the Teamworks Competition. The four teammates worked together to build a foundation, rough in a wall, and complete the wiring and plumbing for the structure; each representing a component of the building trades: masonry, carpentry, plumbing and electrical. An oral presentation explaining how they planned to complete the project was also required. With the 3rd place finish, senior Raymond Furr became the only Rappahannock County High School student to ever medal twice in a state Skills USA competition (Furr finished 1st in Building Maintenance during the 2004 competition).
