helped to set up the occasional vacation bible school, but basic tasks that are simple for high school students to learn but difficult for those who can’t climb a ladder easily are the mainstay of their work.
“Impact Virginia! work crews can’t put in a new foundation, but roofing, cleaning up trash, we can do that,” explained Joe Boronat, a crew chief with Impact Virginia!

Working with Impact Virginia! in Rappahannock County was Bill Welch, a Flint Hill resident who was one of three construction coordinators working with the mission while it was in Culpeper. Welch helped select the homes that volunteers fixed in the county, choosing local people in need based on referrals from social services or local churches , as well as households that he knew of personally from being a resident of the area.
“The criteria we use is making the house safe, warm, and dry, and to try and give a little bit back,” explained Welch. Elizabeth Welch, Bill’s 14-year-old daughter, was also working with Impact Virginia! and spent her week , of mission work in Sperryville, just a few miles from her home.
