What’s with
the water?
There was a joint meeting this week between the
Town Planning Commission and the Town ,
Council. Two huge issues face town officials at the same time - updating the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and building a water/sewer facility.
Once again, those two parallel issues continue to race against each other and when their paths cross the results are disconcerting at best.
But the biggest issue is controlling growth. Will it be done by the size of the treatment facility? Or will it be done by strict ordinances in the Comprehensive Plan? Either? Neither?
Current discussion suggests creating primary and secondary areas. If you’re in the ‘P’ zone you’re good, you'll get water. If you’re in the ‘S’ zone, you won’t.
Part of this thinking doesn’t seem fair. It’s like putting heat on the first floor of your house and holding off putting heat on the second floor even though you've got children sleeping up there. You figure that if there’s no heat up there your kids won’t have friends over for a sleepover.
There must be another way to control development without discriminating against your own family.

Today’s the day. This issue marks the first for the
Rappahannock Guide. While many of our sister
papers have produced their own guides on an annual basis, this is the first for Rappahannock. Hope that you enjoy it!
