The George L. Carder House, also known as Boxwood Hill, is a Federal-style house located on the Scrabble Road in the Woodville/Castleton area Built in 1833, the two-story brick house with a gable roof is representative of the kind of home a relatively well-to-do farmer of the era might live in. There is a one-room log house next to the main residence that probably pre-dates it. The George L. Carder House was added to both registers in 2004.

Sunny-side, located down Sunnyside Orchard Lane off Harris Hollow Road near Washington, was placed on both registers in 2004. Owned bv the Miller and later the Wood families, Sunnyside is now owned by David Cole. The main house at Sunnyside was built in four phases, from the original 1785 two-story' single-pile log structure, to the two-storv, ell-shaped addition built in 19%. Outbuildings include a stone cabin facing the drive , av near the main house.

The Washington Historic District was created in 1975. The Spenyville Historic District was added in 1983, and includi*s pmpertie's along Virginia Route's 522, 1001 and 1002.
