Traveling on the highways and back roads and through the hollows of Rappahannock County, one finds numerous unique and historic homes, churches and other structures.
In recent years, the owners of these properties - whether they are the latest in a long family line, a newcomer to the county, or the trustees of their church - have listed their properties in the National Register of Historic Places or the Virginia Landmarks Register The Virginia Department of Historic Resources (DHR) administers both programs, both of which were started in 1966. The National register is administered by the U S. Park Serv ice, and includes over 2,000 properties in Virginia.
