In addition to the satisfaction of knowing that they have preserved something of value, property owners are entitled to generous tax credits, based on the amount spent for rehabilitation and restoration of historic structures. Of course, there are certain regulations and restrictions when dealing with historic preservation, but the results of these efforts benefit everyone.
In addition to individual properties, the Virginia Department of Histone Resources has authorized the creation of Historic Districts, which can include all of the "conforming structures" in an entire town or village. This program has brought the benefits of historic preservation to within the reach of many more property owners. Rappahannock County currently has three Historic Districts
