Founded in 1972, Wakefield Country Day School (WCDS) is a pre-school through twelfth grade college preparatory day school whose curriculum emphasizes scholarship in the classical tradition, and whose mission is to develop each student's character and intellect to its fullest potential. Our challenging academic curriculum, taught in a nurturing environment, encourages scholarship, diligence, self-discipline and respect for others. We pride ourselves on offering an education designed to produce students who can write well, who possess strong critical thinking skills, and who are motivated by a high sense of ethical responsibihty.
WCDS enrolls international students and offers numerous AP and elective courses and enrichment opportunities (e.g. Drama, Debate, Key Club, Publications, Junior Classical League, Model OAS/United Nations). Annually, we host art exhibits, musical performances, a Medieval Banquet, and International Day. WCDS participates in the Delaney Athletic Conference, fielding teams in soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis and cross-country.
100% of WCDS graduates receive college acceptance and go on to some of the finest colleges ana universities in the nation. Wakefield students consistently rank well above the national average in SAT scores, generally scoring between 1200 and 1400. In 2005, our twelve WCDS graduates were offered over $900,000 in merit scholarships and in 2003, of the seven students who applied to the University of Virginia, all seven were accepted.
