Deer cause confusion
July 23, 2:59 a.m.: A resident of Seven Ponds Road reported hearing shots fired at 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning. The complainant reported that the shots repeated every 5-7 minutes and had been reoccurring for several nights. Deputy Kearns of the Rappahannock County Sheriffs Department investigated the incident and found that the sounds were caused by a neighbor’s propane- powered air gun, an anti-deer “scare device” commonly used to keep deer away from orchards.
In a similar incident on July 23 at 10:25 p.m. deputies were notified that a resident of Yancy road could hear shots fired near the Jenkins orchard. Upon investigation, it was found that that they had a special use permit to shoot wildlife causing harm to their plants.
Hit and run
July 23: At 10:25 p.m. Chad Bear, driving a Chevy Silverado was the victim of a hit and run accident on Fodderstack Road. The Silverado was sideswiped by a large style maroon truck Following the collision, the truck drove away headed towards Washington and was not apprehended. The victim waited for state police in Flint Hill. The damage to Bear’s car was minor.
