Testing to determine the extent of ground water contamination at the Aileen property in Flint Hill has been completed. National Environmental Technologies of Charlotte, N.C., was hired as the consultant by Aileen to do the study. According to Don Litten, utility manager at Aileen, the three-inch thick report was to be sent to both the Department of Environmental Quality and the State Health Department on July 31... Billy von Till, a hydrogeologist at DEQ who is th project manager for the Aileen case, said that his office has received several reports since the testing began. Last year, it was reported that trichloroethylene (TCE) was detected in the well water at the Aileen plant. Since then, said Mr. von Till, tests have shown that the ground water and both wells at the plant are also contaminated with 1,1 dichloroethane (DCA), 1,1 dichloroethane (DCE), tetrachloroethene (PCE) and 1,1,1 trichloroethane (TCA) All are toxic chemicals which have entered the wells and groundwater due to leakage of solvents from the plant.
