A contractor’s application for a permit to continue operating his shop in a residential neighborhood near Amissville was struck down unanimously by the Rappahannock County Board of Supervisors on Monday.
B&S Site Development’s application for a special-exception permit had been trickling through the county permit and appeals processes since March and aroused strong, united opposition from neighbors on Seven Ponds Road.
B&S co-owner Michael L. Brown Jr. came to the two-hour public hearing flanked by a team of three lawyers, and was ready to agree to self-imposed restrictions on the siteexcavation business. But unrelenting opposition from neighbors coupled with questions about Brown’s willingness to adhere to restrictions led the board to reject the special exception that he was seeking.
The issue was originally scheduled for a public hearing before the board on Nov. 6, but Brown requested extra time to organize a community meeting to address concerns from neighbors. The County Planning Commission took up the issue at its October meeting and voted unanimously to recommend that the Board of Supervisors not approve the permit.
