The injuries are mostly lacerations, puncture wounds; fractures, ligament or tendon strain, joint sprain, the usual things that happen to horses.”;
One benefit of the new facility, Nolan feels, is that the veterinarians can confer with each other more easily.
“It’s a new environment to be able to work together... to be able to bounce ideas off each other,” he explained. “When we were in the field, we couldn’t do that.”
The newer equipment comes in handy as well, Nolan said.
“The digital x-ray machines are great,” he stated. “You can take a shot from one angle and immediately see if it’s a good one. If it isn’t, you can do another one from a slightly different angle. That’s very helpful.”
