Zarr plays to the crowd - an educated bunch of several dozen Virginia breeders, mare and stallion owners and assorted horse professionals — prancing in lofty, elevated gaits inside the spacious riding arena where Stout has turned him at liberty to demonstrate his paces. “Look at him. What a ham.” Zarr pauses for effect to watch a latecomer’s truck trundle down the Warren County driveway.
The horse snorts, turns and eases into a long-strided lope that carries him down the opposite fence line for another fly-by.
Already one of the big names in sport horse breeding, Zarr is making his presence known at his new Virginia home. Purchased for the 2007 breeding season by Stoneledge owners Daiyl and Teddy Stout of Front Royal, Zarr has sired numerous national breeding champions in years past, from his former base at Warioto Farm in Tennessee. He was sold last year to a farm in Pennsylvania before the Stouts bought him this fall.
