Those opposed to the permit reiterated what they have been saying for months: The site causes early-morning noise and dangerous truck traffic on Seven Ponds Road; it sets a bad precedent for other properties in the area; and it threatens to reduce land values in the neighborhood.
“I do not want this special exception approved in any way, shape or form,” said Wendy Duke, who lives on Seven Ponds Road.
Duke alleged that B&S has a history of not complying with restrictions, and claimed that Michael L. Brown Jr. has violated several rules since he was told by County Administrator John McCarthy in July to cease storing equipment and materials on the property.
Duke also said that reaction from neighbors may have been more favorable if B&S had applied for the permit in advance, rather than growing the business and applying for the special exception after neighbors objected to the noise and traffic caused by it.
“We got overloaded and overrun by this thing,” she said.
Paul Erlenbom, another Seven Ponds resident, disagreed with attorney Brown’s position that the site causes less disturbance than a farming operation.
