After a restful night’s sleep in the quiet of a small town in a house off the main street, guests can enjoy a delicious gourmet breakfast and good conversation in a beautifully designed sun room overlooking a quiet private lawn and garden. While having breakfast, guests are likely to be mesmerized by the constant squabbling and jockeying for position of the beautiful blue jays and cardinals and other wild birds as they flock to the garden’s arbor birdfeeder.
The Gay Street Inn attracts romantic weekenders, tourists, hikers, vineyard visitors, and weekend guests who come to have dinner at the famed Inn at Little Washington. Interestingly and in a tribute to the Town Council, a significant number of guests now apparently find the Gay Street Inn by first going to the Town of Washington website! The Inn itself has a wi-fi connection for its guests who bring their laptop computers.
Not surprisingly, and as acknowledgment of their creativity and originality, the Washington Hospitality and Visitors Center (WHVC) this past Sunday honored the Gay Street Inn withits first award for “Best Decked Door.” They were responding to the request of the WHVC to help create a winter wonderland of attractive doorways. The Gay Street Inn’s front door was wrapped as a Christmas present with red foil and ribbons.
