Holiday give
and take
Many people seem to find themselves pulled
in several different directions during the
busy holiday season.
There are the usual tasks of buying gifts, planning meals, making travel arrangements and attending holiday parties.
The holiday spirit also motivates many to ionate their time and money to help less fortunate members of the community.
Whether it be for lack of money, ill health or the absence of family members, holiday cheer is harder :o come by for some people.
Some elderly citizens of Rappahannock County find themselves alone during this time of year, and ►vould benefit from a little help.
Sharon Pyne of Social Services has put together a list of seniors who would like to be “adopted” by people willing to help them this season.
Gifts of warm clothing, blankets, toiletries, greeting cards and holiday decorations can brighten the spirits of those who have made our county and our nation what it is today.
“It is better to give than to receive,” goes the old holiday adage. Of course, the two are not mutually exclusive, and this time of year offers plenty of opportunities to do both.
So this year, remember those who are not blessed with loved ones, wish lists or bountiful pantries. Sometimes, a simple gesture can be all it takes to give someone a happy holiday.
