Jan Zindel, who also lives near the contractor’s yard, said that she and other neighbors do not dislike Michael L. Brown Jr. and do not want to put him out of business. But they do want him to move his operation, she said.
“We’re not trying to close down B&S; we just want it to operate in another area,” Zindel said. “This is really a major industrial operation trying to operate in a densely populated area.”
Zindel also emphasized the size of the opposition to B&S’s current location, pointing out that more than 20 property owners have voiced disapproval of the permit that one property owner is seeking.
Supervisor Ron Frazier of the Jackson District, where B&S is located, and Wakefield District Supervisor Roger Welch spoke strongly against approval for the special exception.
Frazier said the area is residential in character and said it is important to note that the houses were there before the contracting business developed.
