When Ken Petty bought a 60-acre piece of property near Amissville in 1968, he thought he had found the ideal setting for an escape from city life.
The former government employee was living in Reston at the time when he and his brother, John, split a 120acre lot on Thoms Mill Run Lane and planned to build houses for themselves on the hills overlooking a fishing pond they constructed in a lowlying meadow.
