Accessories are said to be the jewelry of your home. Paintings, photographs, china, plants and floral designs, sculpture, lamps, clocks, books, and collections of all sorts can be considered as accessories. What are the rules? What rules can be broken? Accessories, more than anything, define a home’s personality and tell your story.
First, take an inventory of things you would like to display. Do some revolve around a theme? Are the things you would like to display of a certain style, culture, or ethnicity? Would you like to punctuate your home’s specific style, or would you like your accessories to continue an eclectic theme? Is your room formal? Casual? Contemporary? Each of these types of looks can be emphasized by how you furnish and how you accessorize. Each of these considerations should be part of your plan.
