The proposed expansion of
the power line on the eastern boundary of the county poses a number of threats to the quality of life in Rappahannock. It may also threaten the historical heritage of the region.
The right-of-way crosses through areas that are historically important, and the proposal now being made by Dominion and Allegheny power companies threatens to expand it significantly.
The Poe’s Road corridor would be heavily impacted by the new project. Poe’s Road is also one of the oldest in the county, and important in early settlement and development.
The first explorers arrived in 1670 following Indian trails, and in the mid-1700s, William Poe laid out a road, following the same track. In 1776 it was one of only two roads north of what is now U.S. Route 211.
