King to speak
at Blue Peach
THE PLAINS, VA -The Blue Peach gallery will host a lecture and book-signing event by Llewellyn King, host of “White House Chronicle” on PBS and author of Washington and the World 2001-2005, on Sunday, March 25, from noon to 4 p.m.
The publication of the book, a collection of King’s nationally syndicated columns, comes as the 2008 presidential race gets off to an early start and as President Bush has begun his legacy lap.
In his introduction to Washington and the World, A. John Adams wrote that King’s columns have guided readers through “the often painful first five years” of the Bush presidency with “a sure-footed understanding of Washington and a delightful eye for the absurd.”
King, who fives near The Plains in Fauquier County, writes with the flair often missing in today’s reporting. He brings the same flair, honed at the BBC, to his weekly PBS television show, a halfhour panel or one-on-one discussion of the news. At The Blue Peach event, King will lecture informally and take questions at 2 p.m.
“I’ve traveled the world reporting and lecturing, but I look forward to this event in the global village of The Plains,” said King, who has covered Washington and the world for a half-century.
King will donate all of the book sales proceeds at the event to the Turner House, which provides literacy and other programs in The Plains.
This is the second in a series of local author-andartist events held at the Blue Peach.
Last June, first-time author Alan Geoffrion and Oscar-winning actor Robert Duvall, both of whom live in Fauquier County, appeared together at a book-signing event at the gallery, celebrating Geofirion’s debut novel and screenplay, “Broken Trail.”
Duvall, who starred in the well-received AMC movie of the book, appeared at the event, which drew crowds from all over the Washington metropolitan area. The event also featured a “Celebration of the American West” by local artists.
“Virginia’s Hunt country has a storied past. And Llewellyn King is one of the area’s best storytellers. His book on Washington and the world in the first five years of this century is a masterpiece,” said Catherine Gallagher, owner of The Blue Peach.
