Death row inmate Ricky Javon Gray, 29, was back in Culpeper Circuit Court on March 14 for a hearing set to appoint him a new attorney.
Five new indictments were filed agaidst Gray last month, including capital murder, which his previous attorney, Kevin Smith, was not certified to defend.
Gray was also charged with arson, possession of a firearm after being convicted of a felony, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and abduction on Feb. 20.
He is suspected of the Dec. 18, 2005 murder of Sheryl Ann “Sherri” Warner, 37, a legal secretary and mother of three. Warner was found shot and hanged with an electrical cord in the basement of her Reva home, which had been set on fire.
