Steve Dareing, sporting a cowboy hat and denim jacket, moved to Rappahannock after many years running a construction company that did major home restorations in the Cleveland Park and Woodley Park areas of Washington, D.C.
He established The Old House Builder in late 2006, along with his partner Bill Christian, who manages the business side of their company.
What prompted Dareing to take on timber frame construction? “It’s fun,” he said with a broad grin. “And there’s a lot of craftsmanship involved with it.”
limber framing is centuries old, and once completed, the inside can be finished just as any home would be, although some prefer to leave the heavy beams exposed.
Dareing is working on more than this large project. He’s got a lot of ideas for his company. “By April 1, we’ll have an office open at 31 Main Street in Spenyville,” said Dareing.
