And the objects surrounding the painting could be a relaxed collection of baskets, greenery, casual candlesticks, or any other artifacts that lend themselves to a feeling of nostalgia or warmth. The proportion of each item to the others needs to make sense. The visual weight of items and how they relate to each other should be evaluated. Often working with a grouping like this requires you to have a large object (the painting), a medium object (the baskets sitting on the mantel) and some smaller items (the candlesticks). If you need a little height or need to add more weight to an item, you could stack some books and place the smaller item on top.
