Instead of advancing these forward thinking policies to reflect Virginia’s 21st century economy, we are allowing public utilities to continue to pursue the condemnation of.private property in order to increase their profits.
For that reason, I voted against the “re-regulation” legislation pushed by the utility industry this session which will inevitably foster more conflict with private landowners while raising electricity rates, instead of offering fair and responsible solutions.
One only has to look at neighboring states to see that we can do better in Virginia.
Last month, Pennsylvania announced an Energy Independence Strategy designed to save energy consumers over $10 billion during the next decade through energy usage conservation, investment in new energy technology to promote efficiency and environmental protection, and reduction in demand for electricity during critical peak periods.
